Banaskantha (Gujarat), Nov 12: When social media platforms have taken a pivotal position in publicity and mass media, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi met the party’s social media volunteers in Banaskantha ahead of the Gujarat assembly elections 2017. Gandhi pointed out the difference between the usage of position by the Congress and BJP while in opposition. He also shed some light on the way his social media team functions and thanked the volunteers.

Addressing the crowd comprising Congress’s IT cell workers and other volunteers, Gandhi said that the prime difference between the BJP and the Congress is that the former has paid social media, while Congress has free social media which believes in truth and its propagation.

Gandhi who is in Gujarat on Sunday, on his second day of the fourth leg of campaign also took a dig earlier at his opponents and trollers, who questioned his rising fame in Twitter. Gandhi had earlier released a video of a dog Pidi and claimed Pidi handles his social media and that is the reason why he has gained popularity.

Responding to a question from a Congress volunteer on the aforementioned video, he said, “I have said that Pidi tweets for me. Actually, whatever I want to say, it can be said in two, three words.”

Regarding what his social media strategy is and how it functions, Gandhi clarified that he has a team which reflects on ideas and suggestions made by him and after these ideas merge, they tweet.

“We reflect on ideas, there is a team of 3-4 people, to whom I give suggestions and after fine tuning them we tweet. Routine work, like birthday wishes isn’t done by me, I give little inputs on it, tweets on political issues are mine,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi in a bid to justify his critique of Prime Minister Modi said that his jibes are directed towards Modi, the person, not his office. He declared he has utmost respect for the position of Prime Minister and would never disrespect it. And says that is the primary distinction between the Congress and the BJP, which he claims disrespected the office of the PM when in opposition.

“Whatever we do, spot Modi’s faults or disturb BJP, we won’t disrespect PM’s position. When Modi Ji was in opposition he used to speak with disrespect about PM. That is the difference b/w us & them, no matter what Modi says about us we’ll not go beyond certain point as he is PM, ” he said.

Keeping in tune with his jibe at the BJP during this campaign in Gujarat, Gandhi said, “But we speak the truth. Aur ye sach hai ke Gujarat mein vikas pagal hogaya hai. (And it is true that in Gujarat development has gone insane).
