DIPLOMA STUDENTS GET PG CERTIFICATE FOR YOGA

Gujarat University has added one more to a string of embarrassing incidents by issuing post-graduate diploma certificate to diploma course participants in yoga. The examination department had issued the certificates. The blunder came to light when student leaders pointed it out to Vice- Chancellor M N Patel on Wednesday. Though the provision to start the course was made a few years ago, the university started a year-long diploma self-financed course in yoga last year. It was offered by the department of physical education, said Patel.

NSUI’s Subhan Saiyad, who pointed out the blunder to VC, said, “GU’s Executive Council had given sanction to start a diploma and not post-graduate diploma course in yoga education.” Patel clarified, “It is a one-year course and definitely not a post-graduate diploma. I will look into the matter to check how permission was given to issue PG diploma certificates. The programme is headed by physical education department’s VD Vanar. We will look into the matter.” Patel said the varsity’s work was only to allocate space to commence the programme as it is a self-financed course.

He claimed he did not know about PG diploma goof-up till a complaint regarding this reached his table. “The controller of examination issues the results. We do not have any part in that process,” added the VC. As per course results, 23 students have passed the exam, 16 failed while 12 students remained absent. The letter signed by controller of examination was issued on June 25 announcing the result. Efforts to talk to Vanar did not materialise.
