‘Modi did nothing for Vadodara in one year’

Congress party on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of neglecting Vadodara after winning Lok Sabha polls with heavy margin from here. Newly-appointed city unit president, Ranjit Chauhan said that the PM had promised to do something for the city but it seems he has forgotten Barodians.

“Modi had said that he would gift something to the city after he won from here last year. But he hasn’t announced any major project here. Other cities are being given many development projects but Vadodara has been given a miss. People voted in large numbers for him but he is neglecting the city,” Chauhan alleged. He also accused BJP of copying the UPA schemes like JNNURM.

“One needs good funding to create infrastructural facilities like BRTS, mono-rails, bridges and roads and JNNURM was launched for the same reason. The smart city concept is nothing but another name of JNNURM. The BJP has also been fooling people for last several years in the name of Vishwamitri Riverfront Development project. Crores of rupees have been spent on the project but nothing concrete has happened,” Chauhan said. He added that Vadodara was number two city in Gujarat during Congress rule and under BJP it slipped to number four behind even Rajkot.

When asked about Congress party’s agenda for civic body polls, Chauhan said that they will expose BJP’s failure on many fronts including water supply and basic infrastructure in the city.

While Chauhan is hopeful of winning considerable seats in the VMC this time, the internal rift among Congress leaders may dent their victory chances.
