GANDHINAGAR: Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit Ahmedabad on December 23; it will be his first visit to the state after the assembly elections. Gandhi campaigned for the elections in the city on December 12, rounding off an almost two-month state-wide canvassing.

On December 23, Gandhi will meet elected MLAs, the candidates who lost, and all district- and state-level party office-bearers. He will meet zonal teams from Saurashtra & Kutch, South Gujarat, North Gujarat, and Central Gujarat. He will receive feedback on all seats.

He will also discuss the report that will be submitted by the state leaders on the party’s sixth consecutive defeat in the Gujarat elections. Decisions will be also taken on the appointment of the leader of the opposition and the chief whip. Changes in the party organization will also be discussed.

Cong starts 3-day ‘Chintan Shibir’
The Gujarat Congress started a three-day Chintan Shibir (brainstorming session) on Wednesday in Mehsana to dissect the reasons for the party’s defeat. The Congress in-charge of Gujarat, Ashok Gehlot, state party president Bharatsinh Solanki and other senior leaders led the discussion. The leaders will hand over a report to Rahul Gandhi on Saturday. “We discussed several issues including the complaint of anti-party activities by some members and the views on ticket distribution,” Solanki told mediapersons. “The Congress has accepted the verdict but people have given the feedback that the Congress got less votes in booths where it got maximum votes in panchayat, municipality and other elections.” He went on to say: “We feel that the feedback related to EVM tampering needs to be thoroughly checked.”
